About Prof. Magee
I am a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals and a Visiting Professor at the University of Chester.
With over two decades of experience I combine a strong foundation in surgical science with a passion for clinical excellence and education.
I specialise in general, gallbladder and hernia surgery with a special interest in managing patients with severe obesity.
Alongside clinical practice, I have a strong academic focus and co-designed a number of MSc modules.
I have supervised numerous postgraduate research projects and co-direct the highly successful Wirral Academic Surgical Programme (@WirralSurgery) that was shortlisted for the NIHR West Coast Awards in 2025.
My work has been published extensively, with over 150 publications including BJS, and I serve as a reviewer and editorial board member for several international journals.
As a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers (RCSEd), I remain committed to the training and mentorship of the next generation of surgeons.
Philosophy of Care
Surgery is where humanity, craft and science meet.
My practice is based on evidence, empathy and tailored care- providing patients with clear options and expert surgical solutions.
It is about getting You back to being You.
